Karen Schulz, Verizon, And NC Domestic Violence Marketing

Karen Schulz is the public relations manager for Verizon Wireless in Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Karen is also responsible for community relations within her region, and has worked with many nonprofist and community development organizations in the Carolinas. NC Fathers was recently introduced to Ms./Mrs. Schulz after she made a comment on another post we wrote criticizing another Verizon employee who is on the board of the NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Now certainly, you may be asking, why in the world would this organization take issue with someone wanting to end domestic violence? The answer to that question is not a popular one, but must be told. Our organization does not feel that the NCCADV or Verizon is interested in ending domestic violence, just some of it and that is directly related to how domestic violence has become commercialized and used for political purposes by many groups. We feel that Verizon and Karen Schulz could have easily jumped into the domestic violence awareness and reduction argument without attempting to denigrate just half of the people responsible for it – that being men. Of course, society has come to think of domestic violence as a social ill that only affects women and no doubt the marketing department has been educated on that framework. The unfortunate reality is that women are responsible for a considerable amount of domestic violence against men and other women. Women are also responsible for a significant amount of child abuse and neglect on their children, but you wont see any marketing material coming out of Verizon about that because it isn’t financially and politically popular to do so. Denigrating men and boys carries a lot of capitol of which major corporations and their marketing arms understand.

YEP! She Does!

Several years ago Verizon put out a public service announcement in the form of a video that was removed by Verizon in which the first 3 minutes was narrated by a young girls voice who spoke about the monster in her life, and her mothers. That monster was her father who was responsible for domestic violence and it also told the story of how her brother would one bay become a monster because of dad. Of course, are there dads who are domestic batterers? Of course there is. The problem with the video was that there are ONLY videos like this one being produced which has led to the socialization that men are the only domestic violence offenders. We also believe that it is socializing women into thinking that only men are offenders therefore when they hit, burn, stab, shoot, cut, run over, and kill – they aren’t doing anything wrong because everyone is focused on men.

Of importance to this organization, there is a tremendous amount of public, government, and family court polices being developed by many groups who want men marginalized in many areas because so many of us are committing violence against women and children. If you are a male Verizon employee or female employee who has a son that has been in the family courts, you know what I am talking about. And, you have, in part, your own employer to thank for helping to perpetuate these policies.

When you see figures like 85% of women experience domestic violence it is important to ask if the organizations gathering, interpreting, and disseminating violence statistics are actually looking for female on male violence or are they suppressing it. Remember, prior to the 1970’s we suppressed all domestic violence. The 85% figure is politics.

Of course, going just on the comment left by Karen Schulz defending the monsters video put out by Verizon, we think you can also look at her and her marketing department for the fact that many of you are not seeing your children because Judges have been trained to see all fathers and men as potential and likely domestic abusers.

Of course, Verizon and Karen Schulz will attempt to defend themselves by saying that we need PSA’s like this one because women experience the most domestic violence, and that sounds reasonable until you realize that this thinking is exactly like saying that it is OK that women are killing men and children because more men do it. Or, that it is OK that 6 kids are killed because it wasn’t 9.

We certainly need PSA’s on domestic violence, but it is possible to do awareness and reduction without denigrating your own customers and extended family members of your customers to appease a group of ideological people with agendas who you likely consulted when getting figures for your PSA’s. Or, perhaps Karen Schulz is one of these ideologues. Either way, the only path to ending domestic violence is to end the political, financial, and personal agenda commercialization of it and we ALL get down to business to stop it.

So patriarchy is male oppression of females, all domestic violence is patriarchy. All heterosexual sex is male on female rape. The NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence lists this as the chief cause of domestic violence and Verizon supports the NCCADV. So, this makes all Verizon male management staff rapist right Karen?

So why do we think that the elite groups that deal with domestic violence has no real desire to end it, just appear to end it? Unfortunately, there are millions of jobs that exists to treat domestic violence victims that requires domestic violence to continue if people want to continue to feed their families. We have authors that are currently writing books on domestic violence that needs millions of victims to buy their books. We have politicians who build laws around domestic violence, and we have professors that need congressional money in order to fund their research. Furthermore, there are hundreds of thousands of non-profits across our county with employees that needs grants and donations to keep their organizations alive. We unfortunately have industrialized domestic violence, and we have fears that Verizon jumped in the arena to make the public feel like they are a great company so that they purchased their product.

You can fall foul on this if you want, but there is actually a group of women who have expressed the same concerns about another issue close to women’s hearts.

The next section of this article is unfortunate. We wish that we could have this discussion with Verizon, the NCCADV, and Karen Schulz without being called misogynistic pigs who want to create an environment for women by which men can abuse them without recourse.  Again, we understand that they have to say this in order to protect their assets and capitol, but the reality is…

Yes Verizon, Yes NCCADV, Yes Karen Schulz, women do commit domestic violence and child abuse

And since the individuals above either directly or indirectly want to turn their backs on these victims, we feel it’s important to bring awareness to your stories.

This woman above in 2014 was sentenced to 99 years in jail for gluing her child’s hands to the wall and viciously beating her into a coma. This kind of domestic violence awareness is exactly like the one’s where certain groups will parade bloody and bruised women through magazines so please do not call foul on this awareness.

Verizon, these kids don’t deserve any advocacy? Or because they are boys they don’t?

On a personal note, I am a custodial father who advocates for non-custodial parents to have equally shared parenting because I think kid’s deserve to have two parents and extended families. I think there is an industry built around the family courts that line lawyers pockets as long as they fight for 18-20 years and the best was to insure fighting is to create a unequal system. It victimizes the non-custodial parent, the children who endure 18 years of hell, and it victimizes the custodial parent who spends all her child support on legal fees from the 18 year fight. Why am I telling you this? Because it took 3 years to get custody of my child from a system that believes fathers are bad people. It took three pediatricians, social services, and many other people screaming at judges to take the child away from the mother. The reason it took three years is because of the socialization that only men are bad that groups like the NCCADV and businesses like Verizon perpetuate. So on behalf of my daughter who likely has permanent issues realted to her abuse, F you Karen Schulz!

In 2014, Natalie Webb of Oklahoma was arrested after police say she molested her three children after being payed to do so and is currently in jail on a $2 million dollar bond. The charges are based on a police interview with her eldest son, 9, who claims his mom would engage in sexual acts with her three other children – an eight-year-old son and two three-year-old daughters – in front of male and female adults in exchange for money. Police say she demanded a polygraph test to reveal her innocence and failed the test. Natalie, according to police, is a known methamphetamine user that would trade food stamps for the drug and sell it from her house.

Yet Verizon does not care?

Shame on Verizon for not advocating for this child.

At this point I dare Verizon or Karen Schulz to speak about this article stating that the images and data we have put up here is only a few instances of isolated problems because we will be happy to add thousands more daily if they would like us to.

Shame on your Verizon. Shame on the NCCADV, and shame on their marketing team for commercializing domestic violence.
