No Way Out But One, Garland Waller Misses Half The Problem In Her Documentary

No Way Out But One is a documentary produced by Garland Waller and Barry Nolan which attempts to educate the public on how our family courts are failing to protect women and children who experience domestic violence and child abuse at the hands of fathers and men in general. In reading about the documentary, it appears that Waller and Nolan believe that greater than 70% of contested child custody cases are awarded to fathers and that most are domestic batterers and child abusers. The concept behind the No Way Out But One documentary is that many women are finding it impossible to navigate the mother and child unfriendly family courts so many are choosing to abscond with children away from the United States in order to protect their children. It should be noted that Garland Waller is a professor at Boston University College of Communications who writes frequently about battered mothers and their children. Barry Nolan is a journalist and communications professional who has spoken at the battered mothers custody conference and regularly writes on this subject.

NC Fathers wants to thank Garland Waller and Barry Nolan for producing this documentary which highlights domestic violence and child abuse, but we have concerns that it is teaching mothers to flee the United States prior to any due process in the system to see if she is actually being abused. And, why is No Way Out But One not speaking about fathers who fear for their kid’s lives? Case in point, this author was recently attacked as a male abuser in comments on another article because I am a custodial father. The commenter has never met me, does not know my name, nor does she know anything about my child custody case but she felt comfortable calling me an abuser right off the bat. And we see this quite regularly lately from people like Barry Goldstein who frequently calls all fathers who fight for custody “male supremacist” and abusers. Additionally, it should be noted that Mr. Goldstein in part lost his legal license for such language.

NC Fathers is interested to hear from the hundreds of thousands of mothers who have sons what they think about these individuals calling your sons child abusers and domestic offenders because they are forced into the courts to have an equal relationship with their children.

NC Fathers is interested to hear from male Boston University Communications majors who are taught by Professor Garland Waller what they think about being automatically labeled as an abuser simply because you fight for custody or equal parentage in the family courts.

And, we are very interested in hearing from Boston University administrators why it is that they condone a professor within their institution to only advocate for half of the child abuse and domestic violence issue in this country.

Or, are we just looking at a documentary that is meant to obtain financial and academic resume recognition?

NC Fathers suspects that Boston University, and the producers of No Way Out But One documentary will say that the information presented here is just a small part of the statistics on violence against women and children. We believe taking that stance is a bit like saying “Six children killed at a daycare are insignificant because it wasn’t nine.”

Garland Waller And Barry Nolan, These Kids Had No Way Out But One – At The Hands of Mothers

So here is the plot, Waller and Nolan advocate that a women who THINKS she is being abused leave the country if she is facing the family courts. Could the mother in the image above have learned to take it a step further and just kill her kids because of something she believed? After all, a renowned Boston University Professor said so right?

Why is Garland Waller and Barry Nolan not being an advocate for this paralyzed child? Maybe she should escape U.S. jurisdiction to not face court? Or god forbid the father of this children got custody.

Why aren’t Boston University officials advocating for for these children? Is Barry Nolan prepared to call the father of this child an abuser if he sought custody after this incident?

Why is the domestic violence community suppressing articles like this one?

Why is the No Way Out But One documentary not advocating for the father of this child to escape U.S. jurisdiction or seek custody of the child? Of course he will now, but what are the chances that the protective mother movement getting on the Internet and claiming he is an abuser?

Could the renowned Boston University communications professor have prevented this tragedy if she created a documentary about ALL abuse and not just abuse by fathers?

Where does Barry Nolan stand on advocating for this child and domestic violence victim? Or does this type of material not fit in with the marketing of his documentary?

There is no doubt that these children should have had no way out but one – and that is at the hands of police or social services. But we can’t do that can we? They may end up in the hands of a father who beats them with an extension cord.

What better outcomes could we have had in this case if Garland Waller and Boston University told the entire story about domestic violence, child abuse, and rape?

Of course, the father of this baby under NO circumstances should have had custody of this child!

Perhaps we could have had better outcomes in this matter if the No Way Out But One documentary was not enabling mothers to not be accountable and escape jurisdiction when in fact they are abusers?

Shame on Garland Waller, shame on you for only standing up for women and children who have experienced domestic violence and death, shame on you for not advocating for this child, her torture, her need for survival. In all the presentations and documentaries you create, I want you to remember this child and for anyone who gasps at this article and shakes their head, you remember you are part of the problem because you are doing a great job of only ending half the problem of violence and abuse.

Disturbing Trends In The Protective Mother Movement

In the past few years we have noted many organizations, academic leaders, lawyers, and others who are responding to the family courts attempting to bring about shared parenting. Unfortunately, the courts only know black or white and are unable to hit the middle of the target in child custody cases. This means that someone HAS to win custody and someone HAS lose custody. In recent years there has been more and more mothers who are losing custody. Instead of focusing their anger at the courts, these groups have responded by excoriating all fathers and men and are attempting to stigmatize all of them as molesters and abusers – even if that means maintaining that framework for their own sons. Or, your sons.

The No Way Out But One documentary is a very good reason that more and more men and fathers need to get into the shared parenting movement, and certainly a reason more paternal related women should as well.

We find it almost criminal that Garland Waller and Barry Nolan, in conjunction with Boston University is celebrating the notion that women should flee U.S. courts and jurisdiction on the grounds they FEEL like they are being abused. Of course, we also have a problem with this documentary not advocating that fathers flee the country with their children when they are faced with mothers and courts like the one’s above.
